Overall personality:
Impatient, opinionated, determined, cunning and loyal are all words that have been used to describe Megan - along with some not-so-nice ones. She does what she wants and doesn't like taking orders unless it suits her needs. When she has her mind set on something she goes for it and won't let anyone sway her. She also likes to have fun, partying a lot.
Despite what some would consider her faults, she is incredibly loyal and would do almost anything for her siblings. She's really close to her mother as well, but she has a complicated relationship with her dad. On the outside everything is perfectly fine, but when he's not around the memories of her childhood spent without him flood her mind. She never totally forgave him for splitting up their family, but it's a feeling that comes and goes. As silly as she knows it sounds, she still has this wish way deep down that her parents will get back together.

History: Megan was born on New Year's day of 1999 under heavy security at St. Mungo's, in the middle of a snow storm. Her birth mother, a seventeen year old supporter of Voldemort's, named her Penelope Rosalyn Carrow before being shipped back to Azkaban. She stayed in the hospital a week before being placed with a family, never to find out about her true heritage.
Mark and Cheryl Emerson were a young, successful couple. They already had a two-year-old son, Tony, and were nothing but thrilled to take in little Penelope, whom they renamed Megan Julianne, although they were never told of her parentage either. It was a year later that Anna joined the household, and the family was complete.
There was never a quiet moment in the Emerson house. With three children so close in age, plus two dogs and three owls, it was utter chaos. Megan was a troublemaker from the start. As a toddler she would spend hours painting on furniture, tormenting her baby sister, and trying her hardest to steal her parents' wands. Her own magic developed quickly, coming in quick bursts to break lamps and set fire to papers.
By her fifth year, things had turned sour at home. Mark had gotten a number of promotions and he was now a liaison between the British, Scottish and Irish Ministers, traveling back and forth between the three. Sometimes he would be gone for weeks at a time while Cheryl was left to juggle family life with her job as a member of the Muggle-Worthy Excuse Committee. And whenever he was home, they would fight constantly. Still, it was a surprise to Meg when they announced they were divorcing when she was six.
The battle for custody was ugly and lasted for months. Due to Mark's constant traveling, it was ultimately decided that Cheryl would be the primary caretaker, though Mark could have them for a full week whenever he wanted. Mostly they would just spend a weekend with him. It was undeniable how much happier they both were after the divorce, which was hard for little Meg to understand since her world was crumbling. She couldn't figure out why this would happen when, as far as she knew, all of her friends' parents fought as well.
Her first six years' worth of mischief were nothing compared to the stunts she pulled when she started acting out. By Christmas she'd tried to run away, threw one of her brother's books in the pool, took scissors to her father's favorite suit, broke a crystal bowl of her mother's, and refused almost every direct order she was given. Things only got worse when her father decided to introduce the children to his new girlfriend over the holidays. This went on for some time before Meg eventually began to calm down and accept that things were changing. She was still rebellious, but not entirely destructive.
In the summer of her ninth year, just before Tony went away to Hogwarts, she was forced to act as bridesmaid in her father's wedding to Kim O'Donahue, a liaison for the Irish Minister. Meg had mixed feelings about her step-mum. She hadn't known her for very long, and the engagement had been surprisingly quick. It wasn't hard to figure out why when Kim was showing as they waved Tony off at the platform.
Tom Emerson was born in April of the following year. Megan didn't think much of him then, but as he grew she came to like him well enough. It was harder to have a relationship with him as opposed to her other siblings as she only got to spend time with him a few days a month, but they managed.
At eleven she was shipped off to Hogwarts under the watchful gaze of her brother, who had promised to make sure she didn't get into trouble. Meg didn't have any house preferences. Her parents had been in separate houses, and her dad's family was a miss-match as well - her mum was a muggle-born. The Hat took a long while to decide, seemingly finding qualities of all four houses in her, but it eventually chose Hufflepuff.
She took to flying quite quickly considering her mother forbid her from touching a broom all her life, but Meg never considered it a real passion, just a past time. Classes - when she attended them - were decent. She was naturally better at some than others. Charms, for example, were a big issue. She couldn't seem to master the subtle wrist movements involved, and barely scraped by with a passing grade. On the other hand, she had a natural affinity for potions, which baffled her family. The girl who couldn't make toast - who could never wait a few minutes for her turn at anything - suddenly had the patience and aptitude to brew complicated potions.
It was because of this new-found skill that her second through fourth years were considerably tamer than the first. Professor Joyce, the old potions master, took Meg under his wing and taught her as much as she could learn. She had an incredible thirst for knowledge. In her spare time, Meg played for the house Quidditch team as Keeper and had many friends and very few boyfriends. While she enjoyed men, dating was always something that got in the way. Of course, she enjoyed the occasional party as well, often getting into trouble for drinking on school grounds.
Then, during Christmas break of her fourth year, things took a turn for the worse. It had all started out well enough. Her dad and step-mum and half-brother had come over to celebrate and everyone had been civil and it was wonderful. Just after New Year's, Meg's mum was cleaning out the attic and had asked for her help. The now-fifteen-year-old was subsequently left with several dusty boxes to go through on her own, which was how she stumbled upon the adoption papers. Not once in fifteen years had anyone bothered to mention that she was adopted - she wondered if her siblings even knew. The papers told her nothing of her biological parents or where she came from, just the things she already knew: her birth date, her new family, and her new name.
Heartbroken and angry, she decided not to bring it up to her family. She returned to her rebellious ways while at school, playing pranks and wandering the castle at night. She was in trouble nearly non-stop, eventually getting herself booted from the Quidditch team for missing too many practices while in detention. The only thing that managed to hold her interest that whole time was her potions lessons, but even those were threatened come O.W.L. time. Professor Joyce assured her that she'd do well on the tests, but she wouldn't be allowed to take the advanced class unless she could commit to it fully. No more trouble making. Megan did as she was told, turning her life around and devoting everything she had to maintaining her status as head of the class.
After school, Professor Joyce did what he could to help Meg get a job at the apothecary in Diagon Alley, stocking shelves at first, but later getting promoted to actually brewing potions to be sold. Her dream was to open her own brew-by-demand business, but it was a long way off. Still, the apothecary job gave her enough money to rent a flat in Hogsmeade where she still lives now, and enough free time to begin investigating her lineage. Unfortunately, no matter how hard she'd searched and no matter how many detectives she'd hired, she hadn't had any luck.
On her twentieth birthday, finally fed up with not only the search but the anger she felt toward her parents, she caved in and told them everything. They admitted that they'd never been told anything about her birth family, and that they'd thought it was better to keep her in the dark. Her relationship with her family back on track, Megan recommitted her time to brewing until the day several months ago when she received a letter from Professor Joyce, telling her that he was resigning and he'd recommended her to the Headmaster for his replacement.
It didn't take long for her to make up her mind about the job when Headmaster Barker eventually contacted her. The apothecary was busy and the pay was good, but it was dull and something a seventh year could do. Though she still longs to run her own business, she's excited to begin work as a Professor to challenge herself.[/color]
