Overall personality:
Elliot is a man that some may consider to be admirable. He does not actively seek out power- the position of Headmaster simply fell into his hands, and he wasn't sure how -- he doesn't consider himself very ~worthy~ of power and is his own biggest critic. Often times, he will reflect on his decisions in the past, and comment on what he should have done. He's a sarcastic, and occasionally snarky man, and like Sherlock, cannot turn this off when necessary.
When teaching, he actually cares about the process. For him, he will press that the process is more valuable than the end result, and that students should be prepared for the real world. When he was a professor, his office doors were open, unless he was helping another student. However annoyed he gets when students repeat the same question over and over again is nothing compared to the satisfaction he gets at the end of the day. He's very materialistic, and is driven by material possessions, and is bold. When he wants something done, or his voice to be heard, it's not hard for him simply to assert himself. He realizes that some people have difficulty doing so, and he honestly tries not to be so intimidating to these people, but Elliot's loud voice can hardly be controlled. When Elliot sees something that he wants, and someone else has it, he can become jealous. Colleagues, for example, are who he easily becomes jealous of.

History: Elliot was the middle child. Did he particularly care? Nope. He was perfectly fine being younger than Russell, his older brother, who he did idolize. Will he admit that? Nope, not in a million years. He was the curious child, constantly badgering Scarlett and James Barker, asking them questions on why the sky was blue, and why the Earth existed, and even how children were made(which his parents quickly skipped over). Russ simply laughed when Elliot asked him questions, but answered some of them. Those questions weren't answered truthfully, though. He read at an early age, much to the delight of his parents, but Russ wasn't very amused. At a young age, Elliot developed an interest in history, particularly flight history. Charles Lindbergh was his hero.
When Elliot was four, little Matthew came along. Russ was six, and thought that he'd be exactly like Eli, and was not amused, because he didn't want to have to answer any more questions about why the sun shines, or why his hair was the color it was. Matt was quiet, and definitely had the same curiosity that Elliot had, though it wasn't as obvious. Matthew was different - he had problems with asserting himself and making his voice heard above his two brothers, who he could be found chasing after, and attempting to be just alike them. When Matthew was one, and Elliot turning five in a few days, Russ showed his first sign of magic at age seven. It was a shock to their parents, who hadn't believed in magic, nor did they like fantasy stories very much. They simply pretended it didn't happen. When Elliot showed his first sign, at a candy store, he made a display case come crashing down because of anger. His parents thought it wasn't him - but they were wrong. The two of them continued to ignore all signs that all three of their sons were wizards.
When Russell got his Hogwarts letter, Elliot was jealous, and Sam had no idea what to think. He refused to do anything unless he got his letter - and pouted for days. Russ finally had to promise to tell Eli everything about Hogwarts before the jealous boy would stop, though this was prompted by his parents. Of course, Russell would completely dishonor the agreement, and not tell his brother a thing about Hogwarts, simply telling him "you'll see" after he asked, every single time. It drove Eli up the wall, and their parents did little about it - controlling Russell was no easy task. He was a Gryffindor, stubborn and proud.
Soon enough, Elliot got his Hogwarts letter. When it arrived, he could be found running throughout the house, shouting happily. Russell still reminds Elliot of this to this very day, which makes his cheeks turn bright red, and Wyatt simply laughs. Though, Elliot couldn't stop asking some of his new friends questions on the Express. Matt was disappointed that both brothers were leaving, and a little bit fearful, but Elliot promised to write, and had every intention to keep his promise. Russell, too, promised to write, and this time, actually kept the promise, much to everyone's shock. Elliot did well, studied hard, and was at the top of his class by the end of the year. Some kids - the pureblood supremacists, at least - were surprised that a muggleborn like Elliot could do so well at a magical school. The kid was smart, though, and he had a very high work ethic from his days in public school, which were largely uneventful.
At Hogwarts, Elliot did well. He made friends, studied hard, and as he got older, tutored some younger kids into having the same success that he had. His friend, a girl two years older than him - Elisa, who ended up marrying Russell, suggested that he should become a teacher. He told her that with his sarcastic comments and snark, along with the cynical nature he possessed, there would be no way that he'd ever teach. However, she pointed out how many kids flocked to him for tutoring and advice, and simply walked away.
Elliot thought of this as a challenge, or at least friendly advice to become a Professor. Muggle studies seemed logical, as it was the course he never had to take, due to the fact that he was a Muggle, one, and two, was good at explaining things. Matt came to Hogwarts in Elliot's fourth year, and was sorted into Ravenclaw after a hatstall, the final decision being between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.
During the summer of Elliot's seventh year, things changed drastically. Russell moved out, after a year with the family at home to an apartment in London, closer to his Ministry job. The family had speculated that something similar to it would happen - though the second thing, no one could predict. James and Scarlett Barker were in a car crash, killing Scarlett almost immediately, and James coming close to death. Matt, who was terrified at first, soon calmed down enough to become interested in medicine and healing. Even though he was only going into third year, he was very intent on making sure his father recovered well, and took most of it upon himself. Russ moved back in temporarily to help with his father's recovery.
When the war started, it was James who decided that the entire family would move to America until the death eaters were gone. All of them were scared - especially young Matt, who was in his first year of healer training at St. Mungo's. Elliot and Russell worked together to keep the location of the family a secret, and ultimately, succeeded. By the time they returned back to England, things had cooled off, and death eaters had began to be imprisoned. Things were looking okay, and Elliot gave up his job as a clerk in Flourish and Blott's and had moved on to bigger and better sights -- Muggle Studies professor at Hogwarts. The previous professor, one of the Carrows, had been imprisoned, and it was necessary to have a replacement. Elliot was young, and largely inexperienced, but he was the right man for the job.
A few years later, he re-met an old classmate by the name of Wyatt, who was a halfblood. The two immediately hit it off- and maybe Elliot felt a little something for Wyatt that he hadn't felt for anyone else in a while. In other words, Elliot had a major crush on Wyatt that he was kind of ashamed of -- back in his years at Hogwarts, he'd figured out that he wasn't completely straight, but was sort of ashamed to admit it. Wyatt was the proud gay guy in their year, hailing from Gryffindor house. He was confident and one of Elliot's closer friends. The two admitted their feelings for each other, and began to date. Two years later, they were married.
Now, things are going quite well, though Elliot is very displeased with the situation with the death eaters. Wyatt and Elliot have adopted two kids, Russell and his wife have had 2, and Matt, a respected Healer, has three of his own.
The Barker family is finally happy.
